Tool #2

I attended a training a while back,( I forget the name of it)that was an eye opener to me. I realized that we are teaching a different generation of students. Students whose everyday life centers around social media. They are influenced not by their family, values, religion or morals, but by the social media and technology. Therefore, we as teachers, have to teach in a different way. Our teaching has to improve year after year.

Participating in a Personal Learning Network is beneficial, in that it allows us to share our ideas on teaching. I learn alot from the teachers around me, they provide me with great ideas that I am then able to share in my classroom. A PLN will allow me to share and gather thoughts from not just my co-teachers, but from teachers around the country.

  1. I agree with you that we are teaching a different generation of students. It is really amazing how everything has changed so much since we were in school. I also think that a PLN is very beneficial; we can learn so much from each other

  2. Yes, we truly are teaching to a media tech generation. Learning from other peers who are learning all this technology for the 1st time too is encouraging to me. Have fun!

  3. I agree with you and Grace. Our students today ARE different. I think grace also makes a great point at how everything has changed so much since we were in school, yet our classrooms haven't changed much at all. I think we are on the verge of making some big changes in Spring Branch. I get so pumped when I think about all of the teachers who are participating in this training - gaining some 21st century literacy that they can then facilitate for their students! What an exciting time to be in education! We are quickly becoming a global community of learners!

  4. Hey Sylvia! It is great to be able to "hook up" with other educators that may be having the same issues/problems that we are having. PLN's are great resources to gain ideas and share our great ideas. You are so right about the students. I feel bad because sometimes I wonder if I can be doing more, technologically speaking, to help my students. I want my students to succeed and in today's world that means exposing them to more technology.
